1st Day of Training


For the first time in a long time, Todd and I went bike riding.  The Camino Frances trail we are planning to take from Saint Jean Pied de Port, France to Camino de Santiago, Spain is right around 485 miles from start to finish.  Our goal is to go this length in 10-12 days by bike, meaning we would have to ride 40-48 miles per day.  The main question is: Can we do it?  Well, not today we can’t.  That’s why we are starting to train for the journey today.  It may take us the entire year to get our stamina up and our bodies ready for 40+ mile days.

Unfortunately, where we live, there aren’t any sidewalks to walk on or bike on.  We rode down our road, onto a main road toward our local Elementary, Middy and High School.  While at the schools, we found a “loop” that we took 3 times.

Total Time Biking: 23 minutes

Total Distance: 3.1 miles

I was pleasantly surprised that we were able to go 3 miles without feeling exhausted.  Yes, I’m THAT out of shape.  We did quite well for our first day in training, I’d say.

We did learn one thing while out today: Todd needs to put some meat on his tuckus.  He was complaining that his derriere was hurting from the first mile.

One day down.  We will see what future training days have in store!
